RESTAURANT MARCO POLO IN THEOULE > LE ROCHER AT GAROUPE BEACH, CAP D'ANTIBES > MY CHER ET TENDRE SIPPING ON A TOMATE 51 AT A LOVELY RESTAURANT IN THE GORGEOUS LITTLE TOWN OF VILLEFRANCHE

Being in the South of France in summer with a lot of time on my hands and the most adorable tour guide around (see out of focus above) has been the occasion to rediscover some of the most beautiful spots on the Mediterranean and reacquainting myself with the aperitif tradition. I'm not sold on Pastis, but I’m loving Martini rosso* and Panachés**.

* The first time I ordered this was by accident. I was after a dry vodka martini but here “Martini” refers to the brand of vermouth – you drink it on its own with ice. This all confirms my conviction that vodka and vermouth have nothing to do together. There’s no place for wet martinis.
** Just a shandy with a fancy French name.
